PreciseMail Anti-Spam Gateway examines all email originating outside the University Libraries and based on
a constantly evolving set of evaluation rules, assigns a SPAM Score to each message which increases as the likelyhood
of the message being spam increases.
The PMAS Quarantine feature sidelines any email received on the University Libraries' email system
which accumulates a SPAM Score above a certain threshold, PREVENTING that suspected SPAM mail from being
visible to Libraries' Webmail and from being downloaded by Eudora.
|
- A guide for users of PMAS may be displayed or printed.
- This PMAS Quarantine applies to ALL users with addresses of the form
<userid@psulias.psu.edu> — INCLUDING any
users who may have chosen to automatically forward their Libraries' email to other email servers.
Quarantine is applied BEFORE any automatic forwarding is attempted.
- Any messages accumulating a SPAM Score of 7.000 or higher will be sidelined into the
user's Quarantine area for 14 days and then, if not released or explicitly deleted
by the individual recipient, is SILENTLY DISCARDED.
- Users may customize their Quarantine experience by selecting their own threshold value.
- Messages may be reviewed, deleted or released from Quarantine via
a secure website.

Users are notified by email DAILY, Sunday through Saturday, at 9AM and 3:30PM, of messages
that have been sidelined into their Quarantine area. Email notifications include a web link to the
user's Quarantine area.
